Why I Declined the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Giving your hard earned money to a charity can be a fantastic and rewarding thing to do. I'm pretty sure that's why the "ice bucket challenge" which required people to donate to the charity for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), took off like wildfire on social media. Well, that and the fact that it gave everyone and their mother (literally) the opportunity to post a humorous online video to share with the world. Of course, the funnier, the better. Why not get attention, while at the same time doing something charitable.

Now that all the challenges have slowly been forgotten and the hype is over, I'd like to explain why I chose not to participate...

I work and study holistic health. If you are someone that does not completely understand what that means, I'm going to briefly explain.

Holistic health deals with the health of the whole person. When I say the whole person, what I mean is that there are many factors that go into overall health including food and nutrition, sleep, stress, fitness, toxic load, self love, and positivity. I also believe whole heartedly in the power of prevention. I teach people how to prevent sickness and disease, how to build up their precious immune system, and how to care for their one and only body with all the nutritious fuel and self love they can muster up.

Most traditional doctors, researchers, and scientists base their practices on treating problems once they have all ready occurred with various medications, treatments and surgeries. I am not here to bash these practitioners, but instead to tell you that it simply is not my way of thinking. Surgeons are amazing people, and we should all be grateful for the skills they possess. If I broke my leg in an accident, I would want the best surgeon by my side. However, when it comes to treating and medicating most of the sickness and disease that we are all bombarded with in this day and age... I must be honest and say that it most likely was brought on by something in your environment, diet and lifestyle.

With that said, when I was challenged to participate in the ALS challenge, I politely declined and donated to my own charity of choice that I annually contribute to, The Wildlife Conservation Society.

Mission Statement:
WCS saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature.

I believe all the cures are right under our noses within nature. Let's all help to save what we have left.

Donate if you can.
